Technological Improvements...

There has been a significant amount of technological advances made in the world in recent years. Technology has been receiving a lot of negative media attention as of late but there are also many positive advances in technology as well. This blog is geared towards the improvements in a few technological devices of what it was like then and what it is like now. Since I was born in 1984 and have been able to experience 26 years of technology, my comparisons will mainly deal with devices that I have been able to utilize first-hand.

Televisions then:
  • black and white or colored
  • long antennaes that never seem to get good reception
  • large in size - awkward placing
  • often blurry
Televisions now:
  • flawless colored screen
  • flat screen
  • can fit easily up against or on wall
  • swivel pedestal for moving the screen easily
  • can go up to HDTV 1080p resolution
  • LCD, LED, DLP, or Plasma TV options

  1. A quarter-century is an eternity in technology years. The mid 80s was the time during which desktop computers first began to appear in schools. The Apple IIE was all the rage. It came with two floppy-disk drives, 64K of memory and a keyboard that could accommodate lower-case letters. Who could possibly ask for more! The machine is now a relic in the Smithsonian. No one could foresee, at that time, what the subsequent quarter-century would bring. Perhaps even more staggering is to try to imagine what technology will look like in the next quarter-century.
